                                      Residential Support Staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification in the seven core competencies
  • One year relevant work experience (full time equivalency)  

The Ideal Candidate will also have:

  • University Degree in Social Sciences or Diploma in the Human Services Field
  • Have knowledge and experience in successfully applying the principles and practices of Personal Outcome Measures
  • Have a high level of performance and experience supporting people who may be verbally and/or physically aggressive

Further Preference will be given to Applicants who:

  • Have experience in supporting people in making choices utilizing appropriate problem solving/decision making processes
  • Have experience in supporting people who have mood disorder, epilepsy, bi-polar disorder, and anxiety disorder
  • Have experience in utilizing non verbal communication tools/techniques and sign language in supporting people with communication barriers
  • Have experience in supporting people who require support with personal care
  • Have experience or are able to create opportunities, motivate and support people to participate in activities of daily living

There can be significant physical demands associated with this position. Must be able to lift and support using appropriate lifting techniques and adaptive equipment. Must be able to bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel and crouch using good body mechanics.                                                                                                                                                           

Applicant must have a valid drivers’ license as well as the use of a safe and reliable vehicle while on shift and be willing to travel.

Applicants must have a proven capacity to build relationships with residents, co-workers, family, other professional support networks and management.

Shifts include days, evenings, awake overnights, and weekends.
